Information About Each Side

Liverpool and Nottingham Forest have developed an interesting recent Premier League record, with Forest proving capable of making life difficult for the Reds.

Forest famously won 1-0 at Anfield in September 2024, handing Arne Slot his first competitive defeat as Liverpool head coach. Liverpool then found it difficult to break Forest down again during the following campaign.

The clubs meet much earlier this time around, with their Anfield fixture coming on the second weekend of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

Liverpool

Liverpool begin 2026/27 under new head coach Andoni Iraola following Arne Slot's departure at the end of last season.

Slot left after two years at Anfield, having delivered Liverpool's 20th English league title in 2024/25. His final campaign was less successful domestically, with Liverpool finishing fifth in the Premier League, although that was enough to qualify for the Champions League.

Iraola arrives after an impressive spell at Bournemouth and will be expected to bring the intense attacking football that characterised his time on the south coast.

Liverpool opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-2 draw away to Newcastle United. Dominik Szoboszlai scored a stoppage-time penalty to rescue a point, meaning Iraola now heads into his first league match at Anfield looking for his first Premier League victory as Liverpool boss.

This fixture also gives supporters an early opportunity to see the latest version of Liverpool at Anfield, with players such as Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk among the major names in the squad.

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest enter 2026/27 looking for a more settled Premier League campaign after a difficult previous season.

Forest finished 16th in 2025/26 with 44 points, surviving after spending much of the campaign involved in the battle towards the bottom of the table.

Trips to Anfield will bring back good memories for Forest supporters after their 1-0 victory here in September 2024. That result showed they are capable of frustrating Liverpool on their own ground, particularly when defending compactly and looking for opportunities on the counter-attack.

This year's visit comes much earlier in the campaign. Forest will have little time to settle into the new season before facing one of their toughest away fixtures.
