Palermo is an Italian football club from the island of Sicily. Most of the supporters come from the area of Palermo however they are also widely popular throughout Western Sicily. They are also well supported amongst Sicilian immigrants in northern Italy. Due to this they tend to have the largest following for away games out of teams in Serie A.
Palermo also has a strong contingent of supporters outside of Italy. There are a number of US Palermo supporters, mainly Sicilian emigrants, as well as Palermo fans living in and around the German city of Solingen. Palermo had a recent spell in Serie B but following their return to Serie A in 2004, the club has become one of the most prominent clubs in Italy. They provided four players to the Italian team that won the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Palermo originally played with red and blue as its colours since its foundation in 1898, but decided to switch to the current choice of pink and black. The colour choice was suggested by a prominent founding member of the club who defined pink and black as "colours of the sad and the sweet", a choice he asserted to be a good fit for a team.
