Ticket Prices and Seating
Mexico vs South Africa takes place at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico, on Thursday, 11 June 2026, with kickoff at 15:00 local time (21:00 BST).
Estadio Azteca is divided into four FIFA ticket categories for the 2026 World Cup, each reflecting a different viewing experience:
Category 1: The premium option. Lower-bowl sideline sections (the Preferente areas) offer the best sightlines and the closest views of the pitch. These are the most sought-after seats in the stadium and carry the highest prices on the resale market.
Category 2: Strong value for most fans. Includes corner sections in the lower tier and central sideline areas in the upper tier. A popular choice for fans who want a good view without paying Category 1 prices.
Category 3: Upper tier, behind the goals. These seats offer a panoramic view of the whole pitch and suit fans who want to take in the full picture of the game.
Category 4: The highest and furthest seats, typically in the upper corner and end-zone areas. The most affordable option for fans.
As this is the opening match of the tournament, demand is exceptionally high. As the tournament approaches, prices are also expected to fluctuate based on demand.
A note on pricing: All prices on this page are listed in British pounds (GBP) for the convenience of our UK-based customers. Buyers should also account for booking fees and delivery charges when comparing listings.
Travel Tips
Getting There
Estadio Azteca sits in the Coyoacán district of southern Mexico City, roughly eight miles from the city centre. The stadium has its own dedicated transit stop, making it one of the most accessible venues in the tournament.
The best public transport option is to take Metro Line 2 (the Blue Line) to Tasqueña Station, then transfer to the Tren Ligero (Light Rail) and exit at Estadio Azteca Station, which is a short walk from the main gates. The total journey from central Mexico City takes around 45–60 minutes, depending on your starting point. Given the scale of the opening match, allow extra time.
For rideshare users, Uber and DiDi both operate in Mexico City, but expect significant delays due to traffic on matchday. Metro and Tren Ligero are strongly recommended for most fans.
Flying In
The main gateway is Mexico City International Airport (AICM), which is well connected to the city's metro network. Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) is another option with official bus connections to the city. AICM is the more convenient option for most international visitors attending matches at the Azteca.
Where to Stay
For the most direct access to the stadium, hotels in the southern Coyoacán district cut travel time, though accommodation options there are more limited.
Most fans choose to base themselves in Polanco, Condesa or Roma, all of which offer easy metro access to the stadium and put you in the heart of Mexico City's best hotels and restaurants.
Wherever you stay, properties close to a Metro Line 2 station will give you the easiest matchday route.
Matchday Tips
Plan your transport well in advance. The Metro and Tren Ligero are by far the most reliable options. There will be a lot of traffic around the stadium on matchday, and rideshare post-match queues can be lengthy.
Buy your transit tickets or load your Integrated Mobility Card before matchday. With a 15:00 local kickoff on 11 June, arriving at least two hours early is strongly advised. This is the opening match of the World Cup, and crowds will be large.
Outside food and beverages are not permitted inside the stadium, and all tickets are mobile-only via the FIFA World Cup 2026 app. A light layer is recommended for the evening, as Mexico City in June can be breezy after sundown.
