Sassuolo are a relatively new team to Serie A having only made their first top flight appearance in the 2013–14 season after promotion as 2012–13 Serie B champions. Sassuolo's famous colours of green and black originated from a kit donated by Lancaster Rovers FC of England. The team from the U.K had a brief tour of Italy in 1921 and donated their kit as a kind gesture to apologise for failing to fulfil their fixture. The game didn't take place due to financial restrictions on The Rovers side. As a result they packed up their belongings and headed home leaving their famous kit behind in Italy.
