Spain topped qualifying group C, with nine wins from ten group games. Their solitary slip up came against Slovakia who went on to finish second in Group C and themselves qualify for Euro 2016. Third placed Turkey also qualified via a playoff match and so Group C has three representatives at Euro 2016.

With many of the Spanish old guard such as Andres Iniesta and Iker Casillas in the twilight of their careers, Euro 2016 qualifying was an interesting campaign for Spain with opportunites given to young emerging talents such as Paco Alcacer of Valenica who scored five goals in the qualifying campaign. This tournament Spain will field a blend of young talent and world famous stalwarts so it will be intriguing to see how they fare in their title defence.

Spain have got new blood emerging through their ranks and the like of Koke from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona's Marc Bartra, and Juventus' Alvaro Morata. All of whom will be looking to make their mark as they look to create history for Spanish football and continue a new era of success.

Key Player

Spain have team full of world superstars but one player who goes under the radar who is integral to their success is Andres Iniesta. The Barcelona midfielder is still an ever-present in the Spanish national side and is now considered a senior player within the squad. Iniesta will have a leading role to play in his first major tournament without his former Barcelona team-mate, Xavi. Spain have a pretty inexperienced squad at international level, Xabi Alonso and Xavi have since retired from international football and Juan Mata, Diego Costa and Fernando Torres have all been left out of the squad. Iniesta has got bags of international experience and will help control the Spain midfield at Euro 2016 and encourage the younger players around him.

The Goals

Spain have the ability to rip teams apart and score four or five in a game and have always been blessed with striking quality. In the past they have had the likes of Raul, Fernando Morientes, Fernando Torres and David Villa in major tournamnets to supply the goals. They will have a number of players capable of contributing to their goals tally at Euro 2016. In qualifying Paco Alcacer was the top scorer but he has been left out the squad along with Diego Costa and Fernando Torres. Spain will be hoping Alvaro Morata can repay Del Bosque faith with goals at Euro 2016 and he will be hoping to continue his club form at Juventus on the international stage.

One To Watch Out For

Thiago Alcântara of Bayern Munich is a skillful playmaker who is very pleasing on the eye. Thiago suffered a serious knee injury at Bayern Munich a couple of years ago but he has rediscovered his best form and has had another impressive season with the German champions. Thiago may be a useful option from the bench for Spain as Iniesta and Busquets control the midfield. Thiago is also comfortable playing further up the pitch and he can help provide quality service to the Los Rojas strikers. If given time and space on the ball, Thiago can be deadly.

Young Starlet

Saul Niguez of Atletico Madrid is only 21 years old yet has become a Champions League player for his club and a regular starter in the side. He is a versatile player who can play both in a a defensive or atacking role and he burst onto the european stage after his stunning solo goal in the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich to take Atletico to the final. Saul has represented his country across all the youth levels from under 16 to under 21. However, after an impressive season at Atletico Madrid, Niguez has been called up to the senior side for the first time alongside Lucas Vasquez of Real Madrid, who is another promising talent. Niguez and Vasquez' talents have obviously impressed the Spanish chiefs, who have selected them ahead of previous Spanish regulars, Juan Mata, Santi Cazorla and Javi Martinez.

Czech Republic have drawn Spain as their opening game, a tie that couldn't be any harder if they tried. Turkey on the other hand are an aggresive side not to be underestimated. Spain will be in for a tough 90 minutes and Turkey will be desperate to pick up points against the reigning champions.

Turkey are very fortunate to be in the tournament at all. They relied on securing a win on the final day and for Kazakhstan to beat Latvia.
